At the end of the day all Albo can do is present a list of boxes to tick. The tech guys dont need to worry about ethics they just need to protect their bums by presenting a document with all boxes ticked in the event something bad happens. Once the boxes are known the kids will devise ways to get those boxes ticked. It will all be lies but no one is bothered by that. The game will be all about ticking boxes as defined by the government.

Based on the findings of today’s Royal Commission, maybe they should consider storing the biometric data in the same irretrievable hole they put Defense personnel medical data? Not even statutory powers can make that accessible!

Teenagers already do just this. This whole thing is nothing more than a media stunt to placate the RW MSM.

There is nothing Albo and all the others can do to stop it, partly because they dont really care, its only to be able to say they have done something.

“Tommy Cooper? You have sawn a lady in half before, right?”
“No, but I’ve seen it done. Nothing to it. This won’t take a minute….” ….What could possibly go wrong?

yeah – but it’s easier (despite probably not being effective) to attack kids’ ability to socialise and learn, than it is to hold global corporations responsible for creating the shitty social media ecosystem they rely on to make their obscene profits

Banning social media for kids is part of this distinguished tradition. No wonder the young are deserting the major parties.

It’s one thing to hold the tech platforms to account, with legal penalties, for facilitating scams, fake news, identity theft and worse. It’s another to deny kids the means with which they communicate with each other. Stopping that will worsen mental health issues; connection is critical for good mental health.

Something needs to be done!

Somebody’s doing something, anything.

Phew

Well said, I suspect that the proximity of an election has something to do with this drive to ban something, anything.

And I’m not even one of the big losers here – the kids who are being “saved from themselves” by people who have inarguably over the years proved that they have nobody’s interests in mind other than their own and their sponsors.
