The striking thing about this segment of the article is the way that it convicts Ms Grover, not of guilt by association, but of guilt by absence of association. No evidence is produced that she has anything in common with Liz Truss, Matt Lawson or Ben Fordham or has ever been in contact with any of them. The one thing that links them is that they believe, or might be induced to believe, that they have been cancelled. This is a false analogy along the lines of “All Greeks are men, Socrates is a Greek, therefor all men are Greeks”.

I know no more about Ms Grover’s political leanings than I did before I saw this article; it may well be that she has excellent right-wing credentials, but no evidence is quoted for them. The worst you can do is produce a picture of her looking hard-faced; and I imagine you’d look hard-faced too if you’d just been slapped with a $10,000 bill, plus god knows how much in lawyers’ fees, just for minding your own, apparently harmless business.

Admittedly her willingness to associate herself with the evil CPAC is a lapse of judgement. But it’s just as likely to be the result of political naivety, political disengagement, or simple indignation at finding herself the victim of a miscarriage of justice, as fellow-feeling. Interesting to compare her reaction to that of Kirsha Kaechele who, in response to a similarly improbable judgment, had the flair, the cheek and the progressive credentials to show up the law for the ass it sometimes is.

Sir Winston Turnbull was a rambling country party member of parliament, with a slow and stumbling manner of speech. At one sitting he was ranting and raving away and said ‘I’m a country member”.
