I was thinking more about how a Scrooge McDuck-tech-head type billionaire might use the inter-webby with AI to get into people’s feeds/social media and nudge and influence the punters into voting for the billionaire’s pre-bought glove-puppet.

Ive been wondering about this myself. One option is the catalogues many of the big monopolies already have as parts of their retails businesses. Eg Bunnings, Coles, Woolies. These are already full of ads so they have revenue. All it would take is to add in some journos and a subscription to AAP and they could be newspapers.

With the ABC’s new chair, Kim Williams, is making all the right noises, and with the current 50 shades of beige MD heading for the exit, I reckon there is cause for optimism. Karvelas’s work is antithetical to everything Kim Williams stands for, so I’d be surprised if he hasn’t already marked her card. I’d also expect that the echelon of privileged ABC journos like Speers, Sales, and Crabb will be told to get out of cruise control.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if Williams doesn’t quietly order a top to bottom review of the remuneration of all contract staff. Some of the fat-cats will going on a diet or going elsewhere.
