I was at school during the early stages of the “Second Chimurenga” (or “Rhodesian Bush War:) and left for the UK in time to catch a decade of The Troubles. The terrorism of my formative years was perpetrated by self-proclaimed Christians.

Exactly. If Man Haron Monis was a terrorist, then so are the Trains. The desperate efforts made to ignore all the evidence that Monis was mentally disturbed is a mirror image of the equally desperate efforts to insist the Trains were mentally disturbed and so not responsible for their actions.
