'Suffer the little children' as used in the New Testament does not mean that the children are suffering as they are in Palestine. To suffer the little children is to allow them more leeway, to not see them as a nuisance needing more control. Jesus was essentially telling his disciples to allow the children to come to him and not to hinder or prevent them in any way.

Until we come up with a humane and affordable way to deal with anti social behaviour of highly damaged/disturbed youth (often born to slightly older versions of themselves at a different stage of the cycle of abuse, who are utterly incapable of keeping their offspring safe in utero or after birth) prison will remain the default method of dealing with the problem.
Michael, when you’ve run a successful trial of keeping these young people out of prison without them reoffending, please let everyone know. It only has to be cheaper than keeping them in prison, which costs a motza, so you have a large budget to work with.
The best thing that can be done in the meantime is to use all legal means to ensure women and girls who are “at risk” don’t become pregnant.

Yes, the desire to re-elected is the reason behind the decision, but it is the influence that the tabloids and shock jock journalists have on the governments chances of getting re-elected that is the point I believe Michael is making. Imo, one only has to look at what was happening in Queensland over the past few years to see the influence News Corp and the shock jocks were having on the government up there, as well as perhaps with the Allan government.

When will the majority of citizens in this country realise that the right and its lesser civilised cousins in and around the black swamp, are the primary cause of why so many of its children are now beyond their limits. The dynamics of Power and Privilege are yet again applied abusively by these predators, who have again, encircle these marginalised children. And still, we sit back and do nothing!

It is contradictory to mandate the minimum age for a criminal conviction because someone else has mandated a minimum sentence for a major crime. It is not ourselves, but the magistrate who is in command of the relevant facts of a case, and every statutory mandate interferes with the magistrate’s range of options. Justice requires us to back off.

Are we talking about crimes or punishment? If you’re suggesting that a minor around the age of 9 is completely oblivious to the concept of wrong doing and crime, then you’re sadly misinformed and you need to go back to Uni and redo some courses. Children as young as 10 have collectively kidnapped, tortured and murdered children. It’d make for an interesting story if a 13 year old set fire to their school and just got away with an ‘oops’ and a ‘sorry’. And a 12 year old raping a four year old (it happens), where does this fit into the argument?

The broad brush doesn’t work here and there can always be improvements in how society deals with punishment for both children and adults. However, raising the culpability age to 14 is just a time waster. There are a thousand other issues that need dealing with first.
