See! It is possible to make a compelling argument for the Australian government to take action on climate change without pretending that the extent of climate change in Australia is within the control of the Australian government!

Should what? Negotiate with the coalition? Plenty of people nowadays are not very fond of coalition and they certainly don’t approve of their stance on climate. Many voted for Labor because they wanted decisive action on that front.

While it’s true that Australia is home to many people with very regressive political and social views, there is also a sizeable part of the electorate who are quite progressive, are socially minded and worry about the future. But it seems that many Australians don’t understand their own electoral system very well and think they need to vote for one of the major parties or their vote will be ‘wasted’ and help the side they don’t want in power. A misconception the majors are all too happy to keep alive.

Australia can only control its own actions.
The whole world needs to transition, but Australia should be a leader.

We are the 2nd richest country in the world, based on median average wealth (see: https://www.ubs.com/global/en/wealth-management/insights/global-wealth-report.html#form )

And we have one of the lowest population per land area in the world.

So it makes sense that we need to do the hard work before expecting the rest of the world to. Yes, we need global buy in, but without leadership from the countries who can make the transition to net zero the easiest, why would the others bother??

Can say that about… every party ?

What’s the highest primary vote now for a single party ? 30% ?

OTOH, if you go out an ask people what they want, rather than who they’re voting for, you’ll find Greens policies are pretty popular.

(Greens also tend to be severely misrepresented by all parts of the media because the last thing any of them want is a real third political option.)

Those individual sanctions are meaningless, pure window dressing and frankly pathetic. Can this government possibly place one sanction on the Israeli Government? I don’t think so.

No sanctions is outright support and complicity in international war crimes.

There have been some sanctions but not enough. Here’s one example.

He has become very conservative and he is unable to sell Labor policies. In fact, Labor has swung to the right since they were elected. Most Labor voters didn’t sign up for approving dozens of new fossil fuel projects. On the other side we have the Trumpian bully, dog whistler, etc, dreadful Dutton. Albanese seems unable to take a trick against this lying fascist. The best thing that could happen would be for Labor having to deal with the Greens and Teals to get legislation through.
Obviously, the comments saying Labor would prefer to deal with the LNP are a fantasy and rubbish. There’s a huge chasm between Labor and the LNP, especially after the Voice vote – a big Albanese failure.
